Helicopter mustering

Good flying is only part of a good muster.

The aircraft has to work with the cattle, the country and the people on the ground. That is where station experience matters.

We have to yard the result too.

Budgerygar is a working cattle station in Channel Country. The same judgement that matters on our own place goes into the contract work we fly for others.

From the air, small decisions have consequences. Push cattle too hard and you can create more work later. Miss the way a mob is reading the country and you can lose time quickly. The job is to use the helicopter well, while keeping the whole muster in mind.

Scott Sky & Station Co. works with station owners and ground crews to understand the job before the aircraft gets airborne.

What we look at

Before and during the job

Country

Terrain, paddock layout, access, likely holding points and where the helicopter can make the biggest difference.

Cattle

The type of mob, how they are moving on the day and when pressure needs to be applied or eased off.

Ground operation

How the aerial work fits with bikes, vehicles, yards, labour and the practical sequence of the muster.

In the field

What a good muster looks like.
